Session Introduction
- Key session outcome: Identifying your friends ‘functional saviour.’
PRAY
- Begin your Life Group with worship songs, contemplative prayer, thankfulness, personal prayer requests or similar.
- Give thanks for any breakthroughs/celebration stories of sharing the gospel, opportunities taken to talk with people.
GROW
Review last weeks practice:
For each of your 3-5 unsaved friends – List questions that could take your usual conversations with each person from external to internal and then from internal to eternal.
During a conversation this week use one of your questions to take the conversation deeper.
Discussion Questions:
- What people or things give your non-Chrisitan friends a sense of security or create pain and frustration?
- Identify the main ‘functional saviour’ of one of your non-Christian friends. In what ways do they draw on this ‘functional saviour’ for their redemption and security?
- How could you present Jesus as their saviour when this ‘functional saviour’ fails them in the future?
- Read Acts 19:1–7 (NLT) – This conversion of John’s disciples is possible because they are open to Paul’s clarification about the role of the Spirit. What has been your experience when sharing the Gospel with those who are open compared to closed?

The practices are designed for you to complete on your own and then review at next week’s session.
REACHING PRAYERS
- Pray specifically for one of the 3-5 people you’ve each identified.
- Pray for God’s grace to ask better questions that would lead to deeper conversations with your non-Christian friends.
- Pray for anyone who has only been baptised in water but is open to the Holy Spirit coming upon them. (Acts 8:16, 1:8, 2:4)
